Assisting Those with Complex Needs

The Center for Positive Living Supports offers a comprehensive array of services that emphasizes staff training for all stakeholders supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, particularly those with severe physical or behavioral challenges.   The Center intently focuses on supporting relationship building in safe, respectful and nurturing environments. The purpose is to ensure the use of positive interpersonal approaches in place of physical management, or other forms of restrictive force that have become commonplace in the work with persons who have complex behavioral challenges. The goal is to facilitate successful community living by validating each individual’s humanity, offering an environment where the person feels safe and building connections to others.

Initially, these services will be reserved for individuals discharged from Mt. Pleasant Center (MPC) since October 2007 or those individuals who would otherwise be placed there and the organizations who are serving them.
