Working with People

This two day training is designed for direct care-givers and first line supervisors (25-40 people per class).  It teaches the basics of providing positive supports and the important role of a gentle caregiver. This training is also a good introduction for managers, support coordinators, clinical staff and those identified as training leaders.  It is a building block for providers to conduct their own internal training.  Attendance at both days is required to receive training certificate.

Gentle Teacher Practicum

This three day training is a combination of classroom and hands-on training in the “spirit of gentleness”.  It is most suited for first line supervisors, managers, support coordinators, clinical staff, and those identified by their agency as having a leadership role in training development. It is limited to 12 – 14 participants because of the intimate setting and design. This training is essential for those looking to become certified mentors or trainers in their own organizations.  The Working with People training is a prerequisite for this training.

Gentle Mentor Training

This three hour mentoring training is designed for persons who have attended Working with People, a Gentle Teaching practicum and is getting ready to mentor for the first time. A mentor is an individual who has a deep understanding of the Gentle Teaching values and how to model and coach others in this process.   A mentor may not necessarily be considered a trainer who would have the skills to teach the Working with People training or a Gentle Teacher Practicum.  This class has a maximum capacity of 25.

Gentle Mentor Certification

This two day certification is available for those who have completed Working with People, a Gentle Teaching Practicum, have mentored at least twice, and have attained a letter of certification recommendation from their agency.  A certification review will be conducted on an individual basis and there is a requirement to complete a project that demonstrates mastery of identified outcomes.  Certification will be given for 2 years.

Train-the-Trainer – Working with People

This three day training is provided at the Oakland County training location only.  It is for anyone who has completed Working with People, a Gentle Teacher Practicum, have mentored twice in a practicum and are now ready to become a certified Working with People trainer in their own organization. Additional certification requirements include co-teaching the Working with People training with a certified trainer.   Certification will be given for 2 years.  This class has a maximum capacity of 6.

Train-the-Trainer–Gentle Teacher Practicum

This is a two day training for people who have completed Working with People, a Gentle Teacher Practicum, is a certified Mentor and is ready to become a certified trainer for the Gentle Teacher Practicum in their own organization.  This training will be individually designed around the needs of each CMHSP and will involve co-teaching several practica with Center trainers.  Certification will be given for 2 years.  This training has a maximum capacity of 8.
